Music Videos have been kinda dull lately. Despite the high def quality and cool camera angles, it appears every one is following the similar template as others. This music video from World Order is definitely liberating! World Order is a Japanese band formed by Genki Sudo, a former Japanese MMA fighter who was known for his unorthodox, amazingly-choreographed ring entrances and adroit footwork. He’s since traded the fighting trunks for slim suits and spread collar shirts—but he’s kept his pop-and-lock dance moves as fresh as ever.
Their precise dance moves are perfectly accentuated by their clean-fitting suits. Sartorial mobility at its finest. Who says wearing slim suits means sacrificing movement? The next thing I would love to see is trickers kicking and twisting in tailored suits!
Some fashionistas out there have mixed feelings when high fashion designers collaborate with companies how appeal to the masses. There is always talk about the fabric, pricing or even overall silhouette. Just like everything else, you can’t please everyone. However, I am totally anticipating the upcoming collaboration with Target and 3.1 Philip Lim. Recently, my respect for him soared with his video lookbook featuring martial art trickers rocking his garments. This time he is giving his design aesthetic into more approachable hands with more comfortable pockets. Available on September 15, the 3.1 Philip Lim for Target collection will feature 100 pieces ranging in price from $20 to $300, including ready to wear garments, sneakers, bags and intimates.
So far, the garments for the menswear define his collections, contemporary with a slight minimal twist. The color palette captures classic fall shades, tones and prints. Overall I dig the menswear collection. However, I am waiting to see what the womenswear ensembles look like. Lets see whether or not, this becomes a bigger success than their previous collection.
H&M has always had an online presence, but try to buy something from the fast fashion brand’s website, and you will get sent straight to the nearest store. An online shop was always the downfall of the brand. It was first reported that the date for the launch of the much-anticipated feature would be around June 2013. Unfortunately, we surpassed mid July!
On the other hand, there has been notification the fast fashion brand will be launching their US web store in August. Honestly, that’s that shit which pisses me off. It has been speculation the brand were going to launch a store in Louisville this fall. Soon as we gotten our wish from rubbing the fashion genie bottle, the web store will be launched around the same time. I suppose its better late than never. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.
It’s amazing how the fashion cycle functions! One trend is out whereas there’s that ” it item” to obtain. With that being said, I remember not to long ago 3 button jackets (i.e. suits, blazers, sport-coats, etc) were frowned upon because they were considered outdated. To be honest, I have also fallen for that sartorial trap (within the exception of my Thom Browne blazer for Neiman Marcus Target collection). On the flip side, revolutionary designers such Junya Wantanabe, Raf Simons, and Dior Homme decided to fight against the fashion norm while challenging its “sartorial etiquette” . In fact, they have been embracing this for the past few seasons in their collections. Based on proper suiting, its been a golden rule to only button the middle button (occasionally the first 2) and never button all three! However, these designers counter attacked with the utilization of all three! It does look appealing, but its not for everyone. I question whether if this will strike a vengeance as a major trend for others to fall sheep for or another trend to defy the old-fashioned rules (i.e. not wearing white after labor day).
Sometimes the diamond in the rough are often found at the most unrecognizable places; They are even hidden right in front of you. The high fashion outlet e-commerce site,Gilt, will be opening its first-ever pop-up shop in Louisville, Kentucky (where its distribution centre is located). The warehouse will be in Shepherdsville, at Shelbyville Road Plaza. From June 28 to July 28, you will be able to cop some of the hottest brands (i.e. minus Givenchy, LV and Balmain lol) for practically 90% off.
I was always curious how in the world all of my purchases from Gilt were delivered super fast. Louisville,Ky is indeed a diamond in the rough in some cases. Good thing I don’t live far because best believe I will be making a visit!
David Gandy is perhaps one of the very few male models who consistently bring elegance and style. There is a sense of nonchalance and confidence with the popped collar. Recently I have decided to change my style by implying dapper ensembles once or twice a week. Its great to change it up. In David Gandy, we trust..
There is a fine line between substitution from imitation. Often times it tends to become overkill. Fashion is not only for the rich and glamorous! Despite the fact most trends are created from high fashion label, high street fashion brands (not labels, difference) would imitate the look for less. Take these shirts from the spanish brand, Zara, for example. They practically got the some of the most popular fashion t-shirts with a fraction of the retail price. It is completely obvious which shirt is being inspired from what designer. However, these popular garments are sold out within minutes! Every one can’t purchase those items. Therefore, a substitute rises from the surface. I must admit some of these “inspired” pieces will just as good as their predecessors.
I remember my junior year of high school reading “The Great Gatsby” actually made me think about the finer things in life. The lavish parties, beautiful women, and clothes. There was a mystique about Gatsby I could relate to. What’s relatable about menswear are the classic essentials. Brooks Brothers, the father of Americana Fashion, designed a collection for the new film adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” . You are never get wrong with classics. There is something about the sophistication of the garments that was truly . To be honest, I would have love to see Michael Bastian designed for the film. However, they wanted to start true to the aesthetic F. Scott Fitzgerald desired (agree to disagree). Nevertheless, it’s still a good collection..
A few months ago my lady and myself happened to see Comedian Anjelah Johnson at The Palace in Louisville. Known for her comedic performance via youtube and MADtv, she slayed her portrayal as the banji boriqua, Bon Qui Qui for T by Alexander Wang‘s 2013 spring/summer campaign. She moved on up from fast food to high fashion retail clerk as the new employee for Alexander Wang’s store. Indeed, she does what she do best (being ratchet). With cameos by Alessandra Ambrosio, A$AP Rocky, Shannan Click, Simon Doonan and Natasha Lyonne, this can a great way to express campaign in an unconventional kind of way. I was not expecting this from Alexander Wang. Sometimes we tend to take fashion a little too serious. Laughter is the cure for everything. Lets have fun with fashion!
Besides my birthday coming up, I would think fashion week is one of the best parts of starting the year off right. We get the chance to see fresh ideas each designer brings to the table. One of the designers who never fail to impress me is Roberto Cavalli. Due to his recent illness, his son, Daniele Cavalli, has taken the throne to deliver this collection. There is something about the designer’s fall collections which my stylish conscious mind break me down to my knees as if I was getting sidekick’d in the stomach. His cool choice of colors create a discreet volume of movement. Seeing the geometric printed shirts layered under exotic skin sleeved outerwear of Crocodile/fur leaves a subtle balanced look.
Daywear is not existant within the collection. Judging from the colors of choice, it appears the designer has a taste for the nightlife. Honestly, I don’t think that is a problem since the dark hues can be applied to according to its respective season of wear.
