The GQ Motto

I was skeptical whether or not GQ made an April Fools prank for making Drake be on the cover of their April issue. Drake is not really someone you would be on top of the hip hop fashion totem pole. It’s amazing how the man can sell many records without a look. However, viewing the images from the upcoming Issue for the men’s style magazine, I beg to differ, surprisingly!

The looks were totally undeniable! Creative Director, Jim Moore, has been guiding American men’s sense of style for years has started to make me a believer in the Canadian! Being styled in the classic pieces (double-breasted sport coats), gave the hip hop artist a sartorial look.  There were some modern looks as well, which you can find inspiration from the runway to the club and the office.

Whenever Drake steps out, he needs to look like this every time. There will be a lot of debates of individuals who distastefully agree on his cover. We need to realize even some of the most fashionable hip hop artists and/or celebrities has stylists (some 2 or 3) to help with their look. Its not often you see them do it all by themselves. Sure they provide their own input at the end. but the stylist job to help sell their look.

Throwback Cover: Jean Claude Van Damme – GQ magazine

It really is not often for you to see martial artists gracing the cover of a major fashion magazine such as GQ in 1995. On the contrary, Jean Claude Van Damme was probably the only one! This Belgian martial arts film star has made many successful action films during the 90s.I remember being just 9 years old owning this issue where they displayed images of his extravagant kicks! I always to be like this dude. After all, dude was a ladies’ man with hella swag!!

Believe it or not, Van Damme still makes films. The difference now is he is focused more on his acting rather than the action. We are just looking forward to seeing some one get kicked in the face with his signature pop 360 kick or fancy kicks! He currently working on filming the sequel of “The Expendables” alongside Slyvester Stallone, Arnold Swarzenegger, Jet Li, Jason Statham, and more!

Theophilus London dons the Camel Coat -GQ Magazine

One of the must have staples in your closet is the camel coat. With that being said, This issue of GQ magazine has got us together. Now I was kinda hesitant about the jacket giving off a old man appeal (so does a pair of loafers and a navy blazer #kanyeshrug); however, music artist Theophilus London demonstrates some of us fashionable/stylish men the template how to rock the coat.

As you can see, each look Theophilus has possess its own personality. Because every look is so stylish, there is nothing sacrificing the inner swag he has. The jacket is such a classic, it actually accentuates his personal style. What makes the jacket even more appealing are the simple, yet effective accessories from the scarf to the socks. How would you rock it?

GQ’s 2011 menswear finalist

According to GQ, they have announced the 6 finalist for America’s best new menswear designers. The six people consist of  Michael Bastian for Gant, T for Alexander Wang by Alexander Wang, Rick Klotz of Warriors of Radness, Patrik Ervell, Kirk Miller (Miller’s Oath), and Riviera Clug Designers Joe Sadler, Derek Buse and Greg Ullery.

I have a huge prediction the award is going to be either Alexander Wang or Michael Bastian. These two designers have been consistent when it comes to being branded from various publications, fashion bloggers and to celebrities rocking the garments created from the two.  nevertheless, these two possess totally different dimensions regards to style, but truly captures the contemporary to fullest!

The interiguing thing about them are their styles are quite modern, but with a different focus. For example, Michael Bastian’s designs reflect the All-American aesthetic fused with altheticism (suits with rugby shirts).

On the other hand, Alexander Wang is more towards the minimalist avante garde aesthetic. The winners of the awards will win 50,000 cash prize to build their business. That’s a great gift!

Let’s make this straight

My overall goal for my blogs is to embrace diversity and slice the systematic way of thinking from my aesthetics in martial arts and fashion.  One of the greatest articles (so real) I ever have read is Harper’s Bazaar’s Q&As with the straight men of fashion. Now most people think its just a Q&A, but it meant beyond that to people like me! Interviewed from the style guy of GQ magazine, Glen O’ Brien to Dirk Standen of style.com was a relief of fresh air.

The questons were consisted on personal opinions. For example, who is considered to be the sexiest fashion house or designer, favorite fashion shows, etc. Every one in the article gave their own individual input, which is respectable by all means!  if you was to ask me:

Sexiest fashion house? classic aesthetic, chanel hands down. modern chic, celine

Sexiest designer? Diane Von Furstenburg.  if you ever seen that lady back in the day till now, you would agree. She is incredible.

Favorite Fashion shows? artistically, Chanel and Alexander McQueen (R.I.P.) , but consistency, Burberry Prorsum

Best Campaign Ad: Tom Ford. Sex sells, period. I know Mr. Ford when I see it

Favorite Model? Chanel Iman . If she was my sister or daughter, I would have to get a gun

Favorite Trend? Military. I hope it stays forever

Straight men can love fashion too! This stereotype quite pisses me off because of quantity of men who are gay in the fashion world or with the interest. Now what ever floats your boat is your business, but we as a society are so use to making people as if they are consellations. We tend to connect the dots and come up within the figure we presume out of the galactic stars.

There is no way in the world you can’t say you have no interest in fashion. When you figuring what to wear for an interview or a date, you are making fashionably choices. You are making a conscious decision to impress you are or job you are trying to pursue. When you step in the club, you want to be freshest Mofo in there.  You ATTEMPTING to make fashion your fit. So people don’t give me that “fashion is for only gay people” bullshit. It just goes to show some people (gay or straight) that it more seriously than others.
